SL-Australia-New Zealand Biz Council keen on boosting bi-lateral trade
The 20th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka – Australia – New Zealand Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was held on 29 July, 2015 at Kingsbury.Ms. Robyn Mudie, High Commissioner for Australia and Grahame Morton, High Commissioner of New Zealand to Sri Lanka, participated as patrons of the Sri Lanka – Australia – New Zealand Business Council. Somasundaram Skandakumar, High Commissioner Designate to Australia was guest of honour and Senaka Silva, Consul for New Zealand also graced the occasion.Addressing the AGM, President Lionel D. C. Silva, Chairman, Lidechsi Group of Companies, who had been re-elected for the term 2015-2016, assured that the Council looked forward to aggressively engage in bi-lateral trade promotion activities with the support of High Commission of Australia and New Zealand Consulate in Sri Lanka whilst maintaining a good rapport with the Board of Investments of Sri Lanka, Department of Commerce, Export Development Board and AUSTRADE.
He also briefly spelled out some of the most significant activities the Council had engaged in throughout the previous year.Speaking as patron of the Sri Lanka- Australia – New Zealand Business Council, Grahame Morton, High Commissioner of New Zealand to India, Sri Lanka, Nepal & Bangladesh highlighted in detail the trade and business opportunities between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. A visit of a trade delegation to Sri Lanka was also emphasized during the AGM.Ms. Robyn Mudie, High Commissioner for Australia as a patrons of the Sri Lanka – Australia – New Zealand Business Council addressing the members on trade, investment and tourism, requested to look more intently at the untapped areas of trade which has a huge potential.Manjula Lanerolle, Managing Director, Glolan International (Pvt) Ltd; Ms. Kishani Seneviratne, Jt. Managing Directress, Westmann Engineering Co. Ltd; Ruwan Rajapakse, Director Hayleys Agriculture Holdings Ltd and Gerard Victoria, Director, Qantas Airways Ltd were elected as Vice Presidents of the Council respectively.
The following companies were elected to serve on the Committee for the Year 2015-2016: Abans (Pvt) Ltd., AGXINTL (Pvt) Ltd., Dart Global Logistics Ltd., Delmege Forsyth & Co. Ltd., John Keells Holdings PLC, Infotechs Ltd., Lanka Milk Foods (CWE) Ltd., Malship Ceylon Ltd., Pulses Processing Industry (Pvt) Ltd., Waters Edge Ltd.Senaka Silva, Honorary Consul for New Zealand; Shameel Javadh, Country Manager, Australian Trade Commission and Mrs. Samaji Seneviratne were elected to serve as Honarary Members.Membership of the Council is open to Individual persons, partnerships, companies, corporations or other organisations engaged in trade, tourism or services with Australia and New Zealand or engaged in joint ventures with Australian/ New Zealand organisations or interested in entering into or promoting trade, tourism, services or joint ventures with Australian / New Zealand organisations. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce provides Secretarial services to the Sri Lanka – Australia - New Zealand Business Council.
